Journalists are invited to report on the latest developments in the treatment of allergic diseases including asthma and immunologic disorders presented at the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) Annual Meeting. The meeting is Nov. 5-10, 2009, at the Miami Beach Convention Center and the Fountainebleau Miami Beach Hotel in Florida.

What:         Physicians, researchers and international experts will present and discuss scientific data on conditions that afflict more than 50 million Americans.

 

The XIII International Food Allergy Symposium will kick off the meeting on Thursday, Nov. 5, with cutting edge information on food allergy pathogenesis, prediction, prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

An allergist-immunologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of asthma and other allergic diseases and immunologic conditions. An allergist has expertise and training to identify the allergic and non-allergic factors that trigger symptoms, and can help people treat or prevent their allergy problems. After earning a medical degree, the allergist-immunologist completes a three-year residency training program in either internal medicine or pediatrics. Next the allergist completes two or three more years of study in the field of allergy-immunology in order to prepare for certification by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology.

 

The American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) is a professional medical organization headquartered in Arlington Heights, Ill., that promotes excellence in the practice of the subspecialty of allergy and immunology.
