A Timely Reference on Vaccines

To The Editor:

The new Annals Supplement on "Adverse Reactions to Vaccines" could not have come at a better time. The CDC continues to expand the indications for receiving the influenza vaccines. With concerns of the H1N1 influenza pandemic, and as we prepare for arrival of the seasonal influenza, more patients are asking for advice on the indications for, and safety of these vaccines. Allergists will continue to see more referrals from primary care physicians for management of patients with suspected allergies to these vaccines. This supplement provides practical, evidence-based guidance on evaluation, testing, and subsequent vaccination if indicated, on these patients.

It will also be a useful reference for primary care physicians by providing information on identifying patients that require referral to a specialist.

This publication serves as a guide on the approach to suspected allergies to other vaccinations as well. The Joint Task Force is to be congratulated on this useful practice parameter and its timely publication.
