International Distinguished Fellow Award

Prof. Giovanni Pajno, MD, Messina, Italy, is associate professor of pediatrics and head of the Allergy Unit for the Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine at the University of Messina. He is an esteemed clinician, researcher and teacher who has contributed much to the body of evidence related to the efficacy of immunotherapy, publishing important articles on both SLIT and SCIT. As chair of the scientific committee for the 2010 International Conference on Specific Immunotherapy in Taormina, Italy, he facilitated the ACAAI-sponsored program and is collaborating with Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology on the publication of a series of articles representing the talks form the conference. In addition, Prof. Pajno has been an invited speaker at ACAAI meetings and is currently serving as a special consultant to the ACAAI Immunotherapy and Diagnostics Committee.

He is on the Executive Committee of Societá Italiana Malattie Respiratorie Infantili (SIMRI) and Societá Italiana di Allergolia ed Immunologia Pediatrica (SIAIP). He also serves as reviewer of Annals, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Clinical and Experimental Allergy, Allergy and Asthma Proceedings, International Archives, Allergy Immunology and Bio Drugs.

Fares H. Zaitoun, Beirut, Lebanon, MD, FACAAI, is an American Board Certified Allergy/Immunology specialist who received his pre-medical and medical training in the United States. He is an ACAAI Fellow and a member of its International Committee. He is also an active member of the World Allergy Organization and the first director of the WAO’s World Pollen Network.

For the past 11 years, Dr. Zaitoun has been in private-based academic practice in Beirut, Lebanon where he is director of the Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Center and a faculty instructor in Allergy/Immunology at the American University Hospital. He is an active proponent of Allergy/Immunology in Lebanon and the Middle East. In addition to being a frequently invited lecturer and moderator/chairman at Allergy/Immunology meetings, he has created and organized several national and regional Allergy/Immunology conferences including the First and Second Middle East-Asia Allergy Asthma Immunology Congresses. Dr Zaitoun is the immediate past president of the Lebanese Society of Allergy & Immunology and the founder and chairman of the Lebanese National Aerobiology Project. He has several published abstracts and full articles. His current research interests include Allergen Immunotherapy, Aerobiology and Environmental Allergy & Pollution.
