Slide Program on Immunotherapy

The American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, in cooperation with ALK-Abelló, Inc. is pleased to provide, "Optimization of Allergen Immunotherapy," a slide program that can be used in presentations on immunotherapy to audiences of health professionals.

The 47 slides that comprise this program were edited by Harold S. Nelson, M.D., senior staff physician at National Jewish Medical and Research Center, Denver, and prepared under the auspices of the ALK Advisory Panel on Immunotherapy, chaired by Richard F. Lockey, M.D., professor of medicine and director of the Division of Allergy and Immunology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa.

The Advisory Panel on Immunotherapy was established in 1995 with the support of ALK to address mutual concerns of allergists-immunologists and industry about the changes in the U.S. health care system, and the impact of these changes on patients with allergic diseases and asthma. The goals of the panel are to:

  • Optimize outcomes of immunotherapy by standardizing the methods by which such therapy is administered.
  • Emphasize the documented benefits of immunotherapy.
  • Prepare and implement future strategies to include new studies, product development and educational programs.

One of the initiatives to achieve these goals was the creation of a national speakers’ bureau on immunotherapy for presentations to local, state and national meetings of physicians and other health care providers. The slide series was prepared for use in that speakers’ bureau, and it is now available to all physicians as a tool to help present up-to-date information on the benefits of immunotherapy.
