Site Selection Tips
Location is said to be the key to success in real estate, and it seems to be true for asthma screening programs as well. During the past 11 years, allergists participating in the Nationwide Asthma Screening Program have used innovative sites, from community festivals and book stores, to libraries and schools, to state capitals and zoos, to reach large numbers of people who might have asthma.
The site selection information draws on the experiences of past screening program coordinators to provide you with tips for selecting a successful screening site. It suggests site selection criteria, locations and equipment needs, and gives special consideration to sites that reach children.
Keep in mind that site selection is only one component of a successful screening program. Getting the word out is essential to attracting participants and reports from previous screening program coordinators show that those who secured media publicity consistently had higher turnouts than those who did not. Sample media materials and detailed information on generating advance publicity also are included in the screening program manual.
